Watch 6,000 Matches Burn, Amazing

One of life's great joys is watching an elaborate chain reaction run of dominoes fall just as it was meant to. All the work, all the planning, and then in an instant, it's done, the participants collapsed.

That's the feeling I anticipated before watching somebody line up 6,000 upright matches in a rectangle and ignite one corner of the box. Yet this pyromaniac's passion project is satisfying in a deeper way.
As expected, the flame gathers strength and speed until a wall of fire crawls across the playing field. By the 45-second mark, every match is inflamed. But something funny happens when you light up thousands of matches compared to the one or two you might burn in your bathroom. Once the flame engulfs the last survivor, the hiss of match head ignition gives way to the warm cackle of a fireplace as black creeps down the matchsticks. As one minute becomes two, the charred wood warps from arrow-straight to gnarled like branches until the whole mess looks like a mop burned black with a molten core.
The video lasts nearly 15 minutes until eventuality extinguishes the setup. Watch it, zen out, find your scalding-hot center.
